Working and Employment opportunities in South Africa
South Africa is home to over 50 million people and is classed as an upper middle economy by the World Bank. That said it’s a place of great diversity of wealth, both within the cities and major conurbations and between the countryside and the urban areas. Unemployment is rife with 25% out of work, outside of the major cities infrastructure is generally limited and the poorest have little access to even the most basic of services.
The major industries of South Africa are Mining and Mineral Extraction (particularly precious metals), Tourism, Automotives and ICT & Electronics. Its also has a booming agricultural export industry, including products such as fruit and wine.
Since sanctions ended many state owned companies have been privatised and this freedom has led to respectable economic growth rates but South Africa continues to struggle with inequality, high crime rates and poverty.
